Winter Getaway Guide to Isla Cozumel

When winter first makes its appearance many of us relish the opportunity to wrap up warm in our favourite coat or get cosy under a snuggly warm blanket. After a couple of months of limited daylight and freezing mornings, however, the winter starts to take its toll, so it is hardly surprising that so many people go in search of some serious winter sunshine. It makes sense really - what could possibly get you through the dark winter months better than a couple of weeks spent enjoying warmer climes?

There are many places that you could go to enjoy some much needed winter sunshine, but you would be hard pushed to find anywhere more delightful than Cozumel. Located just off of the Yucatan Peninsula in South East Mexico, this vibrant Caribbean island is brimming with rich culture, interesting history, beautiful landscapes, delicious food, unbeatable diving and of course plenty of traditional warm Caribbean hospitality.

One of things that most attracts visitors to this island is the spectacular Scuba diving opportunities available here. Throughout the western hemisphere Cozumel is widely considered to be one of the top diving destinations, with beautiful off-shore reefs and a spectacular array of exotic marine life to be discovered. There are many excellent dive shops here, which offer diving experiences suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to confident, certified divers.

If diving is not really your thing, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the beautiful waters surrounding Cozumel. Snorkelling equipment is easy and inexpensive to hire, so you could while away an afternoon gently exploring the waters at your own pace. Alternatively you could always take a trip on a glass-bottomed boat or even enjoy a mini submarine tour! There are lots of ways to explore the fabulous marine life surrounding the shores of the island. Keen anglers will also enjoy a trip to this beautiful island, as Cozumel is rated being one of the world`s best sport fishing locations.

Even for those who are not interested in the island`s waters, there are plenty of things to do and enjoy on Cozumel. For some serious R&R you could spend hours lazing on the beautiful paradise beaches of the east, or swimming in the calm, placid waters of the west. The currents in the waters to the east of the island are known for being particularly strong, but these beaches are perfect for sunbathing or taking walks with sand between your toes.

Chankanaab National Park is the perfect place for nature lovers, which not only has a beach, restaurant and bar, but also walking trails, a stunning lagoon and lots of iguanas to make friends with! This is a wonderful place to while away the hours and explore the beauty of this hidden gem of a winter sun destination.

Many visitors choose to enjoy the island`s splendour by hiring either a car or a scooter, which is the best way to explore the hidden corners of Cozumel. Take your time to investigate the stunning scenery of this delightful island, stop occasionally to sample some of the delicious local cuisine and then carry on with your journey! So to escape the winter doldrums and enjoy some summer sunshine without breaking the bank, look no further than First Choice discount vouchers and get packing!
